Check in to be a budding parish day princess

YOUNG girls hoping to win the  coveted role of Byfleet Parish Day Princess should go along to the village hall on May 10.

Those aged six to 11 from Byfleet and West Byfleet schools are invited to the audition. They will compete for the Parish Day Princess sash, which will be handed over by the present princess, Tilly Tree.

Pearl Thain, who helps to organise the event, said: “The winning princess will keep the sash for the whole year. She will walk around the event with the mayor and her attendants.

“Anyone who is interested in becoming the Parish Day Princess will have to talk to the judges about themselves and read a favourite poem or one they have written.”

Entry forms will be available at most primary schools and at the village hall, off High Road, and must be taken to the hall by May 5.

Auditions will start at 6pm and this year’s Parish Day will be held on July 21 from 12.30 to 5pm. Strong men and women are also needed to help with  the setting up of parish day.

Anyone wishing to have a stall at the event, which is held on the Byfleet recreation ground, can contact Eddie on 01932 352376.
