Training begins for village Speedwatch group

Following the accident, Station Road resident Carole Mitchell campaigned for traffic calming in the road and has helped to set up the group with fellow resident Tracey McGuigan. Four members of the Speedwatch group attended training at Camberley police station last week.

The groups are provided with radar guns and fluorescent jackets by the police and trained to use the guns to catch speeding drivers. Drivers who are caught speeding are then sent a warning letter.

Mrs Mitchell said: “I think people in West Byfleet and Pyrford are really fed up with people breaking the law when it comes to speeding. It is good to know the community is concerned about it.”

West Byfleet councillor Brian Taylor said: “I think it is really encouraging that the group has started its training.” The group still needs five members, email traceymcguigan@yahoo.co.uk if you can help.
