‘Clerical error’ holds up drugs case sentencing

Donovan Campbell, 46, of Brantwood Court, appeared at Woking Magistrates’ Court on June 1. He pleaded guilty to possessing 38 wraps of crack cocaine with intent to supply after a drugs warrant was carried out at the West Byfleet address on May 31. Campbell was originally due to be sentenced at Guildford Crown Court on Friday but was not released from custody at Wandsworth Prison.
The News and Mail understands a clerical error was made and Campbell’s name had been wrongly spelled on the documents ordering him to be produced from jail.
With an incorrect spelling on the order, the prison refused to let him out, even to attend court. The case was therefore adjourned to Monday but will now not be heard until August 11, to enable the immigration authorities to serve papers against him.
Campbell has overstayed on his visa. A woman, 27, was also arrested at the premises on suspicion of conspiracy and being concerned in the supply of class A drugs. She is on bail until August
