Flats plan goes ahead despite objections

Despite objections from ward councillor Mehala Gosling, the borough council’s planning committee voted unanimously to allow the development by Vincent Homes to proceed.
Detailed plans will have to be submitted separately at a later date.
Residents had been concerned about the effect of the building on the nearby Birchwood Road conservation area and about the effect the building may have on the pub.
Clle Gosling said: “We have had a lot of problems with that pub in the past. These problems have been resolved partly through the use of the outside garden area by families.
“Now we end up with this situation being ruined because of the flats going in. I have mixed feelings about this development.”
Planning officer Christine Kelso told Cllr Gosling the pub still had space behind it “for families to use as they so wish”.
The application was agreed unanimously
