Flash of inspiration wins award

Bangers and Flash won the title after being judged by a panel that included Yell television advertisements actor James Nesbitt.
Janet Rowland, owner of Bangers and Flash, said: “We wanted a name that really encapsulated our business and stood out, so we played around with a few puns.
“It wasn’t until I was having bangers and mash for my tea one day that I came up with the play on words.
“I am delighted this spark of inspiration has made us the region’s best business name.”
A judging panel selected Bangers and Flash after an extensive search of the UK’s business names. It was one of the 13 regional finalists in the running for the accolade of Yell Best Business Name 2005 and a winner’s award of £5,000.
James Nesbitt said: “It’s fantastic that Yell is rewarding companies for showing humour and invention through their business names.
“Some of this year’s entries were extremely funny and show there is always room to be lighthearted, while still running a serious business.”
Runners-up included drainage consultants Drain and Able in Reading and toy shop Wooden It Be Lovely in Windsor. The UK title went to All Cisterns Go, a plumbing firm from West Sussex.
Richard Duggleby, head of external relations at Yell, said: “Humour is something customers respond well to and Bangers and Flash caught the eye of the judges with its clever use of word play.
