Wreaths were laid to mark the occasion

Following the service, the congregation came together around West Byfleet’s war memorial to lay wreaths and commemorate the nation’s war dead with a two-minute silence. The Rev Alan Elkins said: “Attendance was up on last year, with more younger people. The cubs, scouts, brownies and guides from the village were all in attendance.
“I led the service and my wife, Joy, preached the message of remembrance.”
The service was also attended by Second World War veterans and current servicemen
