Getting into gear at Brooklands
.  Cameras roll at Brooklands as Top Gear presenter James May puts together a programme on the Mercede James was filming an item for a series of the long-running television programme on motoring firsts. He awarded the gull wing the accolade of being the first true super car, which was produced in the late 1950s. Brooklands, constructed in 1907, was the first purpose-built motor racing track in the world.
The camera crew filmed on the forecourt of the restored Shell Petrol Pagoda and on the steep members’ banking. Jeremy Clarkson, also a presenter for Top Gear, filmed a short piece at the museum last week for a separate BBC programme on speed and technology
