Youngsters put best feet forward to raise funds

A sponsored three-legged walk was the highlight of a fundraising event held on Byfleet Recreation Ground.
Around 30 boys and girls stepped up to the challenge of 20 laps of the recreation ground and raised around £150 towards the appeal.
After working up an appetite the walkers enjoyed a barbecue with food supplied by the duty manager of Bookers Cash and Carry, Byfleet.
Bottles of bubbly and Belgian chocolates were supplied by Tim Brown and Hilary Alerdyce of Marks and Spencers and auctioned by chairman of the appeal, Anne Margetts.
The event, which raised £300, was organised by the skateboard committee SK8 as part of an appeal to raise money to improve the village’s existing skateboard facilities.
The committee was formed after three girls form Byfleet’s youth council placed new skateboard facilities at the top of their list of what youngsters in the village want most.
The fundraising is in the early stages and it is estimated around £25,000 is needed. To date £100 has been donated by Sony and £250 has been given by McCarthy and Stone
