Following fundraising by the school community £12,000 was available to improve the playground.
Pupils were asked what equipment they would most like to have.
This resulted in the addition of an outdoor stage for rehearsing and performing school productions which will also be used at playtime.
There is a gazebo to provide shade during the warm weather and the playground has new markings, additional seating, a giant OXO game and more trees.
A large portion of the funds used for the playground came from an award secured by a parent at the school, Tracy Betteridge.
Ms Betteridge suffers from Parkinson’s disease and she applied for a £5,000 grant to the Parkinson’s Disease Society Millennium Award scheme and this was awarded.
Headteacher Marie Cahill said: “We are very grateful to all our parents who supported this project.
“But particular thanks are reserved to Ms Betteridge for her work in securing such a large grant for the playground improvements.
“The pupils are all delighted with the new play equipment.
