National fundraising event is pure ‘jean-ius’, say pupils Pyrford Primary School pupils joined national fundraising event Jeans for Genes Day on Friday and donned their comfy denims instead of school uniform. UNIFORMS were swapped for funky denim at a school on Friday to help raise money for charity.
Youngsters at Pyrford Primary School donned their favourite jeans in favour of Jeans for Genes Day, an annual event to help raise money for children with genetic disorders.
Mandy Munro, assistant headteacher at the school in Coldharbour Road, said: “It is a national charity that we support at the school.
“All the children arrived at school in their jeans. We like to do our bit for charity and the children raised about £350. I know they enjoyed wearing their own clothes to school.”
Friday was the 12th Jeans for Genes Day and the charity aims to raise about £3 million to fund research into the causes, treatments and cures of genetic disorders in children.
Children contribute £1 to wear their jeans at school and adults in workplaces throughout the country are asked to give £2 to the worthy cause.
