Limetree’s proposal for five New Haw homes quashed

A VISION to create a five-homes development in New Haw has been vetoed by Runnymede Borough Council.

Limetree Ventures hoped to build a quintet of two-storey homes in Warren Road but the plan for a detached house, with a row of four homes behind, was dashed by the planning committee last Wednesday.

If approved, the proposal would have provided parking and vehicle access to Warren Road after demolition of existing buildings.

The site covers 0.14 hectares and comprises a pair of semi-detached houses. It is on the south-east side of Warren Road and bounded to the north by Grange Road. Both roads are predominantly made up of 1930s, semi-detached homes.

The back gardens of both houses mentioned in the scheme have a depth of at least 45 metres. A total of 28 letters objecting to the proposal raised fears about an increase in traffic  and flooding.

The application was recommended for refusal, for reasons that included overlooking a neighbouring property and privacy concerns.

Officers also said it was a cramped and intensive form of development that failed to improve the character and quality of the area.
